So I just bought a Nexus 6. And hey, since it’s a nexus device I rooted it the next day itself. Everything went smoothly for few days and then I got this notification — ‘Android 5.0.1 System Update Available'

Notification

Jul 17, 2017  Get rid of unwanted Scheduled Tasks. If the undesired Driver Update web page opens automatically on Windows startup or at equal time intervals, then you need to check the Task Scheduler Library and remove all the tasks that have been created by ‘ad-supported’ application. Press Windows and R keys on your keyboard at the same time. That includes Software Update. Follow these steps to halt reminders and remove the red badge from System Preferences showing an update. Launch System Preferences and click Software Update. At this point, you may still get the annoying red notification reminders within the Settings app. Upon getting into the 'Software Update' page, however, you'll now be greeted with a blank page that displays your current firmware, along with a notification saying that your software is up to date. Oct 12, 2019  After I rebooted, the badge was still there, but the '1 Update' bubble in the Finder menu after System Preferences had vanished. And, that was my goal. I have 'macOS Updates' OFF in Software Update; just won't check Software Update again. I've already immunized the /Library/Bundles folder from ever having the OSNotification.bundle file work again.

Who will not update?

Now even though updates are always welcome, there are still few of us would who don’t want it (or delay it). For instance-

#1 You can not update software on a rooted device. First, you have to unroot it and then update the software and then root it once again (because Xposed framework)– now that’s a lot of work, Right.

#2 Or say, you are totally satisfied with the latest version and would like to wait before you update to the newer version.

#3 Another reason for not updating is — say if you have an old device then it won’t handle the latest OS well. For instance, my old nexus 7 tablet works better with KitKat than Lollipop.

Now, even if you decided to stick with the older version of Android, there is one problem — the update reminder notification won’t go away. And this looks irritating. So this is how you get it away.
